African Leadership Academy
African Leadership Academy seeks to enable lasting peace and prosperity in Africa by developing and connecting the continent’s future leaders.
The two year A level high school program draws from a socio-economically diverse population of students from across the continent with strong leadership records and potential. We aim to develop the future Nelson Mandela, the next Wangari Maathai, and the African Bill Gates through exposing our students, who come from across Africa, to a core curriculum of Entrepreneurial Leadership, African Studies, and a range of traditional subjects.
In partnership with The MasterCard Foundation, ALA created the Akwanya program: a pathway to university for economically disadvantaged sub-Saharan African students with great potential. The model is designed to provide holistic support and relevant education that empowers Scholars to lead change in their communities.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ALA, popularly known as “Akwanya” selects students from other HALI organizations in Africa and places them on full scholarships at partner universities around the world.
